Mr. Raymond Wigenge is a Food technologist, attained his BSc Food Science and Technology at Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania (1989). He is a holder of MSc Food Science and Technology attained at Gent University, Belgium (1997) and a holder of Masters in Business Administration from ESAMI -2013 (Tanzania).

 He has worked in various Government Ministries and institutions. He has worked with the former National Food Control Commission (NFCC) from 1990 -2003. In July, 2003 the NFCC merged with the Pharmacy Board to form the Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) where he worked from July, 2003 – January, 2018 when he retired from public service.

During the period he worked in food safety regulation, he was involved in various functions and capacities. At NFCC he was a food inspector and was involved in conducting food inspections, developing draft food regulations and guidelines. At TFDA he was a member of the TFDA agency implementation team which developed various documents necessary for establishing the institution (2000) including; the Tanzania Food, Drugs and Cosmetics Act, Framework document, Strategic Plan and Business Plan. At TFDA, he served in various positions as, Chief Food Inspector (July, 2003 – June, 2006), Coordinator Zone Offices and Local Government Authorities (July, 2006 -February, 2008) and as a director of food safety (March, 2008 – January 2018). As a director of food safety, he was involved in developing and implementing the country’s food safety control system. After his retirement, he is involved in undertaking food safety consultancies.
